PRODUCTION OF NEW SUPERB BEGINS IN KVASINY
The production line of the new Škoda Superb started rolling today (Wednesday the 3rd of April 2008) in Kvasiny, Czech Republic. The first model, a ‘Rosso Brunnelo’ 2.0 TDI, has been handed over to the sales management team.
Three petrol and three diesel engines will be available in the Superb from launch. Left-hand drive vehicles will be produced first with right-hand drive production following in July. Later this year, Superb assembly will also be introduced to new partner plants in India and the Ukraine.
The Superb name can trace its origins far back into Škoda‘s illustrious hundred-year history. The first vehicles to bear the moniker were produced between 1934 and 1949. Second generation models were introduced in 2001. This highly -acclaimed saloon was not only manufactured in the Kvasiny plant, but ultimately saw production in the Ukraine, India, Bosnia and Kazakhstan. In total 133,955 examples were built.
Speaking before the assembly lines started rolling, Horst Mühl, member of the Board responsible for production and logistics, said: “The new Superb brings a fresh outlook to vehicles in the mid to upper range and customers will undoubtedly be very enthusiastic.”
